Waunakee High School is located at 301 Community Drive in Waunakee. From Main Street in Waunakee (Hwy 19), take Century Ave (Hwy Q) south to Eighth Street and turn left. Turn right onto South Street. Turn right onto Community Drive.  Use entrance 26.

Description:
Create a stellar percussion section! This hands-on workshop will cover the basics of each concert percussion instrument group (snare drum, keyboards, timpani, bass drum, crash cymbal, and auxiliary instruments), including quality sound production, grip styles, helpful technique hints, and literature from the WSMA Festival Music List. Other topics will include setting up your percussion section and keeping your percussionists interested and well behaved. Participants will read excerpts from band repertoire to present section and ensemble playing techniques and teaching methods.  

One graduate credit is available for this two-day workshop for an additional fee of $220 per credit. Credit information will be available at the workshop and is also available in the Graduate Credit section below.

Instructor:
Cindy Terhune earned her bachelors degree in music education from UW-Madison and completed her masters in music performance under the direction of Anthony DiSanza at UW-Madison. She owns the Terhune Music Studio where she teaches private piano and percussion lessons to about fifty students. She has performed as a section percussionist with the Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra and Madison Symphony Orchestra, and principal percussion in the Beloit-Janesville Symphony.  She teaches the Sun Prairie High School percussion ensemble and is assistant director of the Sound of Sun Prairie Marching Band in Sun Prairie, WIsconsin.  Cindy freelances as a percussion clinician (concert and rudimental) at many area school districts including Beloit Turner, Waukesha West, and Beaver Dam.

Graduate Credit Information:
Registrants have the opportunity to earn one graduate credit for this course for an additional fee of $220. This is a separate registration and fee from the workshop registration. Viterbo University will email participants instructions for retrieving their grade reports online approximately 4-6 weeks after the course, after which time you may request a transcript. Transcripts may be requested directly from Viterbo by completing and mailing in a Transcript Request Form (pdf). Transcripts are $5 per transcript per request.
