White House of Music Recording Studio
Student groups and teachers can currently schedule time to use the recording studio for small group and individual recording. Room use and technician fees may apply.
Larger classes of more than 15 students may visit the recording studio if paired with a field trip option in the Yamaha Technology Center or the Richard and Nancy Wolf Resource Center. A list of potential field trip options is below.
Yamaha Music Technology Center
At this time, teachers and student groups visiting the Yamaha Music Technology Center may utilize the 14-seat Music In Education (MIE) keyboard lab and the two permanent computer stations currently available. Click here for our current list of available software (pdf document).
Future plans include a larger computer lab for full classes and will be equipped with the latest notation, accompaniment and music creation software. This would allow teachers to bring full classes of students to rotate between sessions in the recording studio, the technology lab and the resource center. A list of potential field trip options is below.
Richard and Nancy Wolf Resource Center
Teachers and students are welcome to peruse the over 8,000 titles in the Linda A. Peterson Music Festival Library or the Ralph J. Houghton Honors Library, view or listen to recordings of previous Wisconsin State Honors concerts or simply explore the resources and publications available at the Center. A full inventory of Resource Center documents and publications will be available in the near future.
Student Field Trip Options
Groups of students are welcome to visit the Center during our business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:30 pm) or by appointment. Full class field trips may be scheduled at any time during the school year depending on availability. Due to the space constraints in our tech lab and recording studio, students will be placed in groups of 15 and rotated through various field trip components.
The various configurations for each group of students are listed below. Since the tech lab and recording studio will be occupied during each rotation, only one tech lab option and one recording studio option may be chosen for any given field trip. Other field trip options may be discussed with center staff - please call 800-589-9762 with other ideas or configurations.
Please note that some of these options are not yet available - field trips that require a full tech lab cannot be accommodated at this time. Our current "Log On For Music" technology lab campaign will provide much-needed computer equipment and software for these field trips. If you are interested in contributing to the Log On For Music campaign, please visit our Foundation web site.
